The heart of our village is under threat

The King’s Arms: At the Heart of Polebrook

The Kings Arms, a striking late 17th-century Grade II Listed building made from coursed limestone and topped with a traditional reed-thatched roof, stands proudly at the center of Polebrook’s conservation area. This beloved Polebrook pub is one of the village’s most recognizable landmarks and has been a cornerstone for community support for over three centuries, serving as a place of welcome, gathering, and shared life. As conversations about pub closure circulate, the community is rallying to Save the Kings Arms, ensuring that this cherished establishment continues to thrive.

More Than a Pub

For centuries, the Kings Arms has been much more than just a Polebrook pub. Since the 18th century, it has served as the village’s informal administrative heart, hosting land auctions, acting as a stop for mail collection, and even functioning as a courtroom for local Petty Sessions. This unique history makes the Kings Arms not only a place of hospitality but also a vital part of the community support system, reflecting Polebrook’s civic and social life. As discussions around pub closure arise, it’s crucial to rally efforts to Save the Kings Arms, preserving its legacy for future generations.

What's Happening Now

Today, the King’s Arms remains the only community space in the village open on a near-daily basis. It is the go-to venue for local meetings, social gatherings, celebrations, and village events, as well as a much-loved dining and drinking destination.

Its potential closure would leave Polebrook without a walkable, shared social space.

What We Will Loose

Losing the King’s Arms would cause genuine social hardship. For many residents, particularly older or less mobile members of the community, the pub is their primary, and sometimes only, source of regular social interaction.

This would be more than the loss of an amenity. It would be the loss of connection, inclusion, and everyday community life.

What We Can Do

With your support, we can protect the King’s Arms and preserve it as the historic and social lifeblood of Polebrook, not just for today, but for generations to come.
